CEDAR PARK, TX - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, defeated the Texas Stars in overtime on Friday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Cedar Park, TX by a final score of 6-5. With the win, Cleveland improved to 21-32-5-3 overall this season and with a .410 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

Cleveland's Nathan Gerbe staked the Monsters to a 1-0 lead on Friday with an even-strength goal, assisted by Jordan Schroeder, at 1:16 of the opening period. Then, Texas struck for back-to-back tallies to claim a 2-1 edge as Tyler Kelleher scored at even-strength at 3:38 and Sheldon Dries buried a shorthanded breakaway at 9:29. The Monsters responded with a shorthanded Schroeder goal at 14:40 that leveled the score at two thanks to assists from Alex Broadhurst and Ryan Collins before Alex Broadhurst pushed his team back in front at 18:50 of the period with a power-play marker that came courtesy of feeds from Terry Broadhurst and Gerbe.

In the middle stanza, another extra-man strike for Cleveland was provided by Paul Bittner at 3:09, as Terry and Alex Broadhurst's assists helped the Monsters extend their advantage to 4-2 before a Reece Scarlett even-strength marker pulled Texas within a goal at 4-3 at 2:06 of the third. Cleveland's Hayden Hodgson pushed the Monsters back in front by a pair with a five-on-five finish at 4:21 of the final period with Collins and Calvin Thurkauf registering assists on the play, only to see a Travis Morin power-play goal at 6:09 and a Roope Hintz even-strength goal that crossed the line for the Stars with under seven seconds remaining in regulation, leave things tied at five at the end of the final period.

In a three-on-three overtime frame, the Monsters finished the job at long last with a Gerbe breakaway tally, assisted by Collins at 1:45 of the extra session, to lift Cleveland to victory by a final score of 6-5. Monsters net-minder Matiss Kivlenieks improved to 12-17-2 this year by virtue of a 36-save performance while Texas backstop Landon Bow stopped 37 pucks on Friday and is now 17-13-6 on the season.
