Generals take four of six points last week

Week In Review - Flint earned four of a possible six points last week while contending for first place in the Central Division. On Friday, December 3, 2004, the Generals defeated the Rockford Icehogs 5-3. Mike Kinnie paced the attack with two goals. Right wing Jim Duhart returned for his first game back with the Generals and scored the game-winning goal late in the third period. Goaltender Marco Emond picked up his seventh victory of the season. It was on to Quad City on Saturday night as the Generals come from behind to beat the Mallards 2-1 in a shootout. Defenseman Brent Currie (1) tied the game at 1-1 midway through the third period. Duhart scored the game-deciding goal, and the only goal of the shootout. Goaltender Dan McIntyre stopped 36 of 37 shots for his fifth victory of the season. Flint wrapped up the weekend dropping a 6-3 decision at Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon. Kris Waltze (5), Mike Kinnie (15) and Jim Duhart (2) scored for the Generals. Despite the loss, the Generals remain only one point out of first place in the Central Division.

Sherwood/UHL Player of the Week Nominee - Right Wing Jim Duhart is our nominee for the Sherwood/U.H.L. Player of the Week ending December 5, 2004. In three games, Duhart had two goals, three assists for five points and was plus 2. He scored the game-winning goal against Rockford last Friday, and the game deciding shootout goal in the victory at Quad City on Saturday. He also scored at Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon.

Southern Sports Supply/UHL Goaltender of the Week Nominee - Dan McIntyre is our nominee for the Southern Sports Supply/U.H.L. Goaltender of the Week ending December 5, 2004. McIntyre was superb in the 2-1 shootout victory at Quad City on Saturday night stopping 36 of 37 shots and did not allow a goal in the shootout against the Mallards.

Radio/Internet: WFNT-AM 1470 – Ramada Inn & Conference Center Pre-game Show at 6:40 p.m. Kalamazoo Wings (10-9-1, 21 pts.) Third Place, Central Division

Wednesday is the second of seven regular season meetings against the Wings and the first of four games at Wings Stadium. The Generals defeated Kalamazoo 3-0 at Flint on October 22, 2004 in the only other meeting this season. Kalamazoo is led by center Yannick Carpentier (7g, 12a, 19 pts.) Goaltender Chad Alban has appeared in 16 of 20 games with a record of 8-7-1. The penalty minutes leader is Tyler Willis (107). The Wings posted a record of 1-2-1 last week on their Eastern Conference trip. After Wednesday’s game, the Wings are in Muskegon on Friday (12/10) and host Danbury on Saturday (12/11) before heading to Rockford on Sunday (12/12).

Friday is the second of six regular season games against the Trashers and the first of two games to be played at Perani Arena. It also marks the first game for Jim Duhart against his former teammates in Danbury, where he started the season. The Trashers are led by left wing Brent Gretzky (8g, 15a, 23 pts.) and center Bruce Richardson (6g, 14a, 20 pts.). The penalty minutes leaders are left wing Brad Wingfield (176) and defenseman Rumun Ndur (159). The Trashers won three of four games last week and have a record of 8-1-1 in their last ten games to hold on to first place in the Eastern Division. Danbury is on the road for four straight games this week. Before heading into Flint on Friday, the Trashers are at Richmond on Wednesday (12/8) and wrap up the weekend in Kalamazoo on Saturday, (12/11) and Motor City on Sunday (12/12).

Saturday is the second of four regular season meetings against the Jackals and the first at Perani Arena. Flint defeated Elmira 3-1 at First Arena on November 26th. Right wing Greg Koehler (22g, 19a, 41 pts.) leads the U.H.L. in scoring. Right wing Jason Sessa (15g, 13a, 28 pts.) is second in team scoring. Defenseman Chris Shaw (88) is the penalty minutes leader. The Jackals were 1-1-1 in their games last week. Elmira is at Port Huron on Friday (12/10) before heading to Flint and will wrap up their weekend Sunday afternoon (12/12) in Fort Wayne.

Record: (12-8-2, 26 pts.) Second Place, Central Division

Leading scorers: Bobby Reynolds, (7g, 22a, 29 pts.), Mike Kinnie (152g, 121a, 273 pts.) and Rob Valicevic (10g, 13a. 23, pts.) Penalty minutes leader is Kris Waltze (124). Kinnie continues to lead all U.H.L. rookies in points (27) goals (15), power play goals (8) and shooting percentage (15 goals/62 shots @ .242 percent). Reynolds leads the league in assists (22). Valicevic is tied for the league lead in short-handed goals (3), and is tied for second in game-winning goals (3). The Generals’ goaltending tandem of Marco Emond and Dan McIntyre are among the top five goaltenders in the United Hockey League in goals against average and save percentage. Bobby Reynolds is one assist away from career assist #500 in his pro career. He is also three games shy of career game #700. Defenseman Mike Tobin is two games away from career game #300. Team Captain Kam White is 10 games from career game #500.
