Generals Split Double-Header with BayBears

JACKSON, TENN. (MAY 21, 2012) - The Generals split a double-header with the Mobile BayBears (25-20) on Monday afternoon at Pringles Park, dropping game one, 2-1 and winning game two in walk off fashion 4-2. Francisco Martinez blasted a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh of game two. The Generals (27-18) won the series, taking four of the five games.

Game 1: BayBears 2, Generals 1

Mobile got on the board in the fourth inning after Marc Krauss came home on a wild pitch by starter Brandon Maurer (2-1) and Mobile led 1-0. Krauss then extended the BayBears lead in the sixth on a homer to right-center. Mobile led 2-0.

The Generals scored in the bottom of the seventh inning when Gabriel Noriega came home on an RBI single by Nick Franklin. The Generals stranded 10 runners on-base om game one and left them loaded in the seventh inning.

Mobile starter Tyler Skaggs earned the win to improve to 2-3. He pitched five shutout innings, allowed six hits, and struck out two in the victory.

Maurer also gave up six hits and struck out six in his 5 1/3 innings of work, but he allowed two earned runs, including a home run and took the loss.

Game 2: Generals 4, BayBears 2

The Generals got off to a good start in game two, scoring two runs in the third inning. Kalian Sams started the inning with a triple and later scored after Francisco Martinez reached on a fielder's choice. Martinez scored for Jackson thanks to an RBI single by Denny Almonte.

Jackson starter Taijuan Walker started the sixth inning by hitting David Nick with a pitch and walking Matt Davidson. Brian Moran came in to pitch and gave up a 2-run double to Marc Krauss. Reliever Jandy Sena then came in and closed out the inning.

Francisco Martinez ended the game in the bottom of the seventh with a 2-run shot over the right field wall off of Mobile's Eric Smith. The home run was Martinez' first of the season.

Jandy Sena took the win after pitching two innings and striking out one. Taijuan Walker pitched well despite having two earned runs to his credit. Walker tossed five-plus innings, striking out six and walking one.

The Generals will travel to Montgomery on Wednesday and begin a five-game series against the Biscuits, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT. LHP Danny Hultzen (4-3, 1.81) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Matt Buschmann (1-2, 5.45) for Montgomery.
