Jackson Generals News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Generals played arguably their best game of the season Friday night in Jacksonville, downing the Suns 11-1 at the Baseball Grounds. The victory was Jackson's largest of the season and the offense tied a season-high with 18 hits. All ten Generals to bat had at least one hit, and Ryan Yarbrough pitched brilliantly in the victory.

Jackson (19-15, 65-38) scored 11 runs in the contest, but did not need much offense with Ryan Yarbrough on the mound. Yarbrough (10-4, 3.18) turned in a fantastic start, allowing just three singles and no walks over seven shutout frames. It was the third time in 2016 that the All-Star went seven-innings.

After coming up empty in the first two innings, the barrage began in the third for the Generals. Ryan Casteel started things with an RBI single to center. In the following inning, Benji Gonzalez and Tyler O'Neill added RBI singles while Leon Landry drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. The first four runs were charged to Jacksonville's Jake Esch (10-8, 4.01) who did not make it through the fourth inning.

Already up four, the Generals continued pouring it on. Ian Miller drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Brock Hebert led off the sixth with a triple before Landry and Tim Lopes tacked on RBI singles to put Jackson on top 7-0. The Generals scored in four-straight innings in the middle of Friday's contest, and they were held without a hit just once in nine frames.

The league's best hitting squad landed a knockout blow in the ninth inning, scoring four times to make it 11-0. Tim Lopes scored thanks to a Marcus Littlewood double and an error before Benji Gonzalez got Littlewood home with an RBI single. Pat Brady capped off the scoring with a two-run double to left field, giving the Generals two runs on one hit for the first time all night.

Jacksonville (15-19, 45-59) got its only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth off of Forrest Snow. Ronnie Mitchell led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sacrifice fly. Mitchell's double was Jacksonville's only extra-base hit of the game.

Jackson's 18 hits tied a season-high set June 9 in a 14-inning game against Pensacola. Benji Gonzalez and Tim Lopes led the way with three hits, and the two were among six Generals that had multi-hit nights. Gonzalez tied a career-high with 115 hits on the season, and the Generals still have 37 games left to play. As a team, the Generals were 7-for-19 with men in scoring position and seven players drove in a run.

The win was Jackson's third in a row, and the team has taken seven of eight overall. They've also clinched the season series with Jacksonville, having won six of nine games to this point.

The Generals will try to make it four in a row in the series finale Saturday evening. Paul Blackburn (6-4, 3.14) is slated to make his second start for Jackson after being acquired via trade from the Cubs, while Matt Tomshaw (2-2, 4.14) toes the rubber for Jacksonville. First pitch from the Baseball Grounds is set for 6:05 pm CT/7:05 pm ET, and you can catch all the action starting at 5:50 pm CT/6:50 pm ET on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1) in Jackson and online via the TuneIn Radio App with the Pregame Show.
