Generals Let One Slip Away

July 17, 2016 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Victoria Generals News Release

The Victoria Generals could not hold onto a 3-0 lead and gave up three runs in the top of the eighth and one in the top of the ninth to fall 4-3 against the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Riverside Stadium, Sunday night.

The Generals were led by strong pitching from the starter, Dakota Mills, who pitched 7.2 innings and giving up two runs on four hits while striking out eight.

Chance Callihan came in to relieve Mills who had runners on first and second with two outs, but Callihan couldn't get the final out and allowed two hits and giving up one run and one walk tying up the game 3-3. Kenny Saenz came in to replace Callihan and was able to get the batter to fly out for the final out.

After the Generals' offense left a runner stranded at third in the bottom of the eighth, Braxton Smith came in in the top of the ninth. Smith gave up one run on one hit and had an error while trying to make a throw to first on a sacrifice bunt to give the Cane Cutters their first lead. Smith recorded the loss.

The Generals looked to come back in the bottom of the ninth, but were unsuccessful bringing home the runners from second and first and lost as their six-game win streak ended.

The Generals' Pedro Barrios and Chace Sarchet were the two who recorded RBIs.

The Generals have a small break with the TCL All-Star Game happening Tuesday. The Generals will be back in action, Wednesday as they hit the road and take on the Brazos Valley Bombers.

The Generals return home Sunday, as they face the Woodlands Strykers. First pitch starts at 7:05 P.M.

Gates will open an hour before first pitch with happy hour on the Compadres Design Party Deck. Draft beer will be half-price until first pitch.
