Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - The Generals held on in a dramatic contest to win their home finale 8-7 over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Jackson. Jackson tied a season-best with 16 hits, with the team's five-run fourth inning giving them the lead for good.

Jackson (21-43, 50-82) turned the game around in the fourth inning, scoring five times to turn a two-run deficit into a three-run lead. Down 5-3 with one out, Jabari Henry launched a two-run triple to right field that knotted the game up at five. Henry would score on an Ian Miller base hit to put Jackson on top by a run. Later in the inning, Jordy Lara singled home Miller and Tyler Marlette drove in a run with a double to make it 8-5.

Pensacola (36-29, 61-72) didn't go away, adding a run in the fifth and one more in the seventh. The Blue Wahoos pulled within one when Richard Vargas walked home a run with the bases loaded. After three-straight walks, Tyler Knigge came in and got Beau Amaral to end the inning.

The bullpen got Pensacola to leave two more men aboard in the ninth inning. Paul Fry (S, 4) walked each of the first two batters he faced in the ninth before striking out the final three hitters to pick up his fourth save. The lefty got pinch hitter Yovan Gonzalez looking to seal the victory for Jackson. Pensacola stranded 11 runners on base in the contest.

The Generals took an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning off of Pensacola's Barrett Astin (4-5, 5.73). Tyler Smith singled with one out to push his on-base streak to 26 games. After a Guillermo Pimentel walk, Jordy Lara doubled home Smith and Marlette followed with an RBI single to put Jackson on top 2-0. Smith finished with a season-high four hits in the game.

Pensacola answered right back, putting five on the board in the second inning against Edwin Diaz. The first four batters all reached via hit, with Kyle Skipworth tying the game on a two-run double before Ray Chang's two-bagger made it 3-2. Alex Blandino capped off the big inning with a two-run homer to left field, putting the Wahoos on top 5-2.

Diaz (5-10, 4.62) battled his way through five innings to become eligible for his fifth win of the year. The right-hander struck out six without walking a batter, but did give up six runs on nine hits. Kyle Hunter, Richard Vargas and Tyler Knigge all earned holds with their work in relief before Fry pitched the ninth.

Six Generals had at least two in the contest, led by four from Smith and three from Tyler Marlette. Zach Shank had one of two triples in the contest, getting to third with one out in the second to help Jackson follow Pensacola's big inning. Jabari Henry, who led the way with three RBIs, drove him home on a groundout to cut the deficit to two.

After a league-wide off day on Wednesday, the Generals begin their final series of the year Thursday in Chattanooga. Stephen Landazuri (1-6, 4.82) is set to make his finals start for Jackson opposite Lookouts' lefty Jason Wheeler (4-2, 3.83).
