Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems broke a scoreless tie in the second period but would be unable to hang on in extra frames as they fell to the Berry Conference's Allen Americans 2-1 in a shootout on Friday night on Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena. Scoring for the Gems was David Nimmo.
Scoreless through the first twenty minutes, Dayton would strike first with a breakaway goal by David Nimmo at the 8:23 mark of the second period, his fifth goal as a Gem assisted by Brandon Naurato. Outshooting the Americans 23-22, the Gems skated their 1-0 lead into the dressing room for the second intermission.
The third period would prove beneficial for the visitors, as former Dayton Bomber and current Allen American Jarret Lukin bounced in his 17thlamplighter of the season to tie the game 1-1 at the 15:56 mark and ultimately send the game into sudden death overtime by the final horn to end regulation. After a scoreless five minute overtime, the game proceeded into the shootout, with Tim Hartung scoring the lone showdown goal for the Gems. Allen's Colton Yellow Horn and Nick Layton beating Dayton starting netminder Larry Sterling for the shootout win.
With the shootout loss, the Gems pick up one point in the CHL standings, but see their record slide to 16-24-10.
