Wichita Thunder News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Wichita Thunder won 3-0 over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the Century Tel Center on Tuesday night.
Marc-Antoine Gelinas set a new Thunder single-season record with his fourth shutout of the year. Gelinas stopped all 36 Mudbugs' shots, including a staggering 21 in the final period.
Gelinas made several brilliant saves from close range throughout the game, and was helped by a number of defensive plays in a third period that saw Wichita get outshot 21-0.
Aaron Davis put Wichita in front 1-0 with a shorthanded goal at the 5:14 mark in the first. A.J. Gale's shot from the top of the right circle created a rebound in the low slot that Davis banged past the left of Mudbugs' goaltender John DeCaro. It was Davis's third shorthanded goal of the season. In the closing seconds of the period, and with the Thunder on a power play, Matt Robinson was struck in the face with a puck that created a breakaway for Simon Mangos. Marc-Antoine Gelinas stopped Mnagos's attempt to tie the game and then halted Shawn Limpright's rebound opportunity near the left post as time expired.
The Thunder increased its lead to 3-0 after the second. Robin Richards's took a backhand shot in front of the net that hit the crossbar and eventually settled behind DeCaro at 14:18. The Thunder struck again at 18:17 on a goal from Troy Schwab. Jesse Bennefield made a circle-to-circle pass to Lance Galbraith who passed into the slot where Schwab punched through a wide-open backdoor.
DeCaro was 15 of 18 in the loss. Each team went 0 for 5 on the power play.
The Thunder hosts the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the arena box office at (316) 755-SEAT or visit the Thunder's official website at www.wichitathunder.com.
