Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Sauget, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies used three pitchers to throw a one-hitter against the Lake Erie Crushers on Saturday night at GCS Ballpark as the Grizzlies cruised to a 5-1 win.

RHP Adam Eggnatz, LHP Jon Jones, and RHP Jordan Wellander combined to allow just one baserunner after the second inning and protected a lead throughout the evening. The Grizzlies (27-28) have now won two straight games against Lake Erie (24-27).

After Eggnatz (4-1) gave up an unearned run in the first inning, Gateway's bats responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame. Cody Livesay started things with a leadoff bunt single against Crushers starter Steve Hagen (3-3). After a walk to Craig Massoni, the Grizzlies evened the score on Brandon Thomas' RBI single.

Tyler Tewell then stepped in and laced a single into right field to give Gateway a 2-1 edge. Blake Brown capped off the frame with a sac fly to plate Thomas as the Grizzlies took a 3-1 lead.

The score remained 3-1 until the seventh inning, when Massoni blasted a two-run homer to right field. It was Massoni's second opposite-field homer in as many nights and his ninth long ball of the season.

After giving up a run in the first, Eggnatz would settle in to retire 11 straight batters at one point and go six strong innings during his start. Jones replaced him in the seventh and would go on to set down all seven batters he faced. Wellander secured the final two outs of the game.

After a walk allowed in the sixth, Gateway would retire another 11 batters in a row to end the game.

The Grizzlies go for a series sweep of the Crushers on Sunday evening at GCS Ballpark. RHP Will Landsheft makes the start for Gateway against RHP Mike Devine for the Crushers. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Sunday online at www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt and Matt Sabados have the play-by-play call.
