Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - Chicago Cubs RH Matt Garza returns to the Iowa Cubs for a second Major League rehab start tonight. This will be Garza's fourth rehab appearance overall as he returns from a strained left lat suffered during spring training. The Cubs have also activated INF Edwin Maysonet from the disabled list.

Garza started the last Iowa home game on Monday, May 6 against Oklahoma City. He pitched 3.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits while striking out three. He made a second rehab start at double-A Tennessee on May 11 while the I-Cubs were on the road. In three rehab appearances overall, Garza has allowed two runs on eight hits in 9.1 innings, walked four, and struck out five.

Maysonet has been out since May 9 with a sprained right ankle. He is batting .250 (16-for-64) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, and 11 RBI in 24 games for Iowa this year. He has started games at all four infield positions and has also appeared in left and right field for the Cubs this season. Prior to going on the disabled list, he had hit safely in his last five starts.

The Cubs open their longest home stand of the season tonight at 6:35 with the first of four games against the Tucson Padres. The Padres will have LH Clayton Richard starting opposite Garza on his own major league rehab assignment. The gates will open at 5:05 and the game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:15.
