June 5, 2007 - Florida State League (FSL) - Brevard County Manatees
Mat Gamel joins Cole Gillespie as the only Manatees players to earn Pitcher or Player of the Week honors this season. In what is shaping up to be a ruthless weekly contest that often has four or five players pitted against each other for the honor, Gamel rose above the pack and struck gold this past week. A perfect 1.000 Slugging Percentage with a .536 Batting Average pushed Mat over the top.
Offensive Player of the Week
Mat Gamel, Brevard County
.563 (9-16), 7 R, 5 2B, 1 3B, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 6 BB, 1 SO, 1 SB, 1.000 SLG
Mat Gamel has been looking for his stroke in his first year in Class A Advanced. The former South Atlantic League All-Star may have found it this week as he went 9-for-16 and raised his batting average almost 30 points from .238 to .266. Of Gamel's nine hits, five went for extra bases, accounting for nearly a fifth of his season total.
Pitcher of the Week
Johnny Cueto, Sarasota
1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 SO
After not pitching for 10 days, Johnny Cueto took advantage of the extra rest. Cueto pitched six innings of shutout ball, striking out 10 Vero Beach batters as Sarasota defeated the Rays, 16-0. Cueto has put together a solid season, pitching 60 1/3 innings while only allowing 22 earned runs. The Dominican has also struck out 52 and only walked 19 batters.
Tha Manatees end their four-game swing at Tampa tonight. The score at this time is 2-0, Manatees. Will Inman is on the mound for the 'Tees who are nursing a slim 1.5 game lead over Palm Beach with just under two weeks to go in the first half of the season. If the half ended today both the Manatees and Sarasota Reds would qualify for post-season play in September.
The Palm Beach Cardinals are 0-0 in the top of the 3rd innings at Clearwater.

Those tracking our treasure hunt need to be present tomorrow night and get a program. Tomorrow night's clue will have you scrambling while the game is going on and you will be forced to solve a clue subject to a time limit based on the game's completion. Those that solve the clue will receive a bonus clue. Those that don't need to get up to speed on the twisted mind of Buck, as Rob Brown would put it.
Just case anybody was wondering if there is a clue in tonight's email, there is. Look hard.
Deal with it, America.
