Gameday: Adirondack vs. Wheeling
February 12, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup marks the first visit to the Glens Falls Civic Center for the Wheeling Nailers this season. The two teams have met just once, a 4-1 win for Adirondack on October 30 in West Virginia, led by two points apiece from Rob Bordson and David Shields. The two teams will meet once against on Tuesday, the last Thunder home game until February 27.
MAKING MOVES: The Thunder have made several roster moves of the past week, the most notable of which involved Mitchell Heard's recall to the American Hockey League by the Stockton Heat on Thursday. To fill the void from a series of recent injuries and call ups, the Thunder have signed four skaters, forwards Quinn Smith, Phil Bronner and Terrence Wallin, as well as defenseman Nicholas Kaquli. Smith and Bronner appeared in Tuesday's game against Elmira, while Kaquli and Wallin look to make their debut tonight.
SILEN OF THE LAMBS: Jeff Silengo's scored his tenth goal of the season in last Saturday's win over Norfolk which kicked off the five-goal outing for the Thunder. Silengo later assisted on Mitchell Heard's third period goal that gave Adirondack a 4-1 lead in the eventual 5-1 victory.
RECALL ME MAYBE: On top of ranking second on the team in scoring with 32 points (12-20-32) Mitchell Heard has a +17 rating, which leads all Thunder skaters. Heard's two-goal performance in last Saturday's game helped lead to a recall to the Stockton Heat yesterday. Heard has one assist in four games in the AHL this season, which came on December 29 against the Ontario Reign.
GOALIE CAROUSEL: While Kent Simpson continues to lead the way between the pipes, the backup position has featured multiple different faces. The Thunder acquired goaltender Jacob DeSerres from Colorado last week but traded him to the Alaska Aces on Thursday for future considerations. The Thunder have once again called upon the services of emergency back-up goaltender Joe Spadaccini for tonight's game against Wheeling.
TOP GUNN: Thunder winger Gunnar Hughes scored one of Adirondack's four goals in their October 30th win over Wheeling in West Virginia. Hughes, making his ECHL debut, took a feed from defenseman Mike Bergin and beat Franky Palazzese with a wrist shot from the slot. Hughes has amassed 14 points (7-7-14) in 38 games during his rookie season.
