Prince Albert Raiders News Release
The Lethbridge, AB product has a goal and two assists to spark the Prince Albert Raiders (19-20-7-2) to a 6-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars (18-24-4-3).
McDonald scored his goal 3:51 into the contest. On a Cougars power play, the 19-year-old centre beat the defenceman to the puck and outmuscled him to the net, lifting his shot over Tavin Grant to put the Raiders up 1-0.
Midway through the period, Prince George tied it up. Josh Maser picked the corner over Ian Scott off the rush to make it a 1-1 game.
Later in the period, Jordy Stallard restored the Raiders' one-goal lead. Trailing the play, he took a pass from Sean Montgomery and snapped it past Grant for a 2-1 Raiders' advantage.
Six minutes into the second period, the Cougars again tied the game. Liam Ryan was left alone in the slot and he beat Scott to tie the game at 2-2.
With 3:40 to play in the period, Parker Kelly gave the Raiders the lead for good. He cut inside former Raider Rhett Rhinehart and shot it past Grant to give Prince Albert the 3-2 lead.
The Raiders put the game away in the third period. Curtis Miske extended his point streak to six games when he took a pass from Stallard and snapped it through Grant 1:21 into the final frame. Then, Cole Fonstad finished off a give-and-go play with McDonald to make it a 5-2 game. Sean Montgomery rounded out the scoring with a power-play marker at the 10:20 mark.
Scott tied his career high in wins with his 13th of the season by stopping 22 shots. Grant turned aside 29 Raider shots in the loss.
The Raiders are back on the ice at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday night when the Edmonton Oil Kings make the trip to Prince Albert. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Art Hauser Centre box office and raiderhockey.com.
