Game Recap: Raiders 0, Broncos 4

January 15, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, SK - Guaranteed Win Night didn't go as planned for the Prince Albert Raiders (15-19-6-2) on Friday night as they were shut out 4-0 by the visiting Swift Current Broncos (30-10-3-0) at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Raiders had a quality chance early in the game when Kody McDonald got behind the Broncos defence, but Stuart Skinner denied him with his pads.

Swift Current opened the scoring when Glenn Gawdin had two cracks at the doorstep. Ian Scott made the first save, but Gawdin collected the rebound and found the back of the net. Less than a minute later, Kaden Elder scored on give-and-go play to put Swift Current ahead 2-0 after the first.

In the second, the Raiders established some offensive zone pressure. On a counter attack, Colby Sissons beat Scott to put Swift Current up 3-0.

Late in the period, the Raiders were pressing on a power play. Cole Fonstad beat Skinner, but was unable to beat the post as the period ended 3-0 in favour of the Broncos.

The Raiders kept up the pressure early in the third. Jordy Stallard got the puck past Skinner on a shot from the top of the faceoff circle, but again the puck hit the post and bounced out. The Broncos sealed the game when Gawdin scored an empty-net goal late in the period.

Scott stopped 21 shots in a losing effort. Skinner made 29 saves to earn the win and the shutout.
