Late-Inning HR Dashes Thunder Comeback Bid, 4-3

BOX SCORE (5/8)

AKRON, OH - The Trenton Thunder held a lead heading to the bottom of the 8th inning, but they were unable to hold-off the Akron RubberDucks down the stretch in a 4-3 loss.

Your Thunder got a strong start from Chance Adams who matched his Eastern League career-high with 7.0 innings of two-run baseball, but your Thunder trailed 2-0 heading into the 8th.

In the top of the 8th inning, the first two men were retired by Cole Sulser before Miguel Andujar bounced a ground ball to third base which was kicked by Mark Mathias to extend the inning. After a hard-earned nine-pitch walk to Mike Ford, your Thunder had runners at first and second with two outs.

That prompted Neil Holland to enter from the bullpen to face Zack Zehner. Sunday, Zehner strode to bat late in Game 2 of the doubleheader and tied the game with an RBI triple. After grinding out another quality at-bat by your Thunder's left fielder, he slashed a triple to right-centerfield on pitch no. 10 to score a pair of runs and tie the game 2-2. On the ensuing pitch, Billy McKinney doubled to left-centerfield for his third hit of the night and for the first lead of the night by your Thunder.

In the bottom of the 8th, Akron catcher Francisco Mejia worked just his fifth walk of the season on 10 pitches to set-up what was the game-winning home run by Bobby Bradley a few moments later.

Trenton (18-11) has now led in 27-of-29 games this season and the 11 losses for your Thunder have been by a combined 19 runs.

Your Thunder return to action Tuesday night against the Akron RubberDucks at 6:35 p.m. RHP Yefry Ramirez (3-0, 4.00) gets the ball as your Thunder look to turn around a roadtrip that has started 1-3. Pregame coverage with Adam Giardino begins at 6:20 p.m. on 920 AM WNJE and online at www.trentonthunder.com/broadcast.
