Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO. - Eagles defenseman Sam Jardine buried the game-winning goal just 1:08 into sudden-death overtime, as Colorado erased a 2-1 third period deficit to beat the Alaska Aces 3-2 on Sunday. Colorado went 1-for-3 on the power play, while holding the Aces off the scoreboard on three opportunities on the man-advantage.

Alaska would race out to an early lead when forward Tyler Shattock slammed home a loose puck in the low-slot, giving the Aces the 1-0 edge at the 13:26 mark of the first period.

Colorado would erase the one-goal deficit when forward Matt Garbowsky corralled his own rebound in the left circle and snapped the puck past Alaska goaltender Kevin Carr at the 8:04 mark of the second period.

A turnover in the Colorado zone late in the middle frame would prove costly for the Eagles, as forward Tim Wallace would field a cross-slot pass from line mate Tim Coffman, setting up a wrist shot from the right circle that would give the Aces the 2-1 advantage with just 1:22 remaining in the second period.

Colorado would storm back in the third period, as Carr would turn the puck over on a clearing attempt from behind the net. The puck would be gloved down in the slot by forward Cam Maclise and rifled into the net left vacant by Carr, tying the game at 2-2 with 9:15 left in regulation. The goal was Maclise's first goal of the season, as the 24 year-old rookie made his Eagles debut on Wednesday.

The Eagles killed off two late power-play chances for the Aces, forcing an overtime at the conclusion of 60 minutes of play. Colorado would force a turnover deep in their own zone, springing a 2-on-1 rush down the ice. Forward Luke Salazar would dish the puck across the slot, setting up Jardine to blast the puck into the back of the net and giving Colorado the 3-2 victory.

Simpson claimed the win in net, stopping 19 of Alaska's 21 shots, while Carr suffered the overtime loss giving up three goals on 38 shots.

The Eagles hit the road to face the Utah Grizzlies on Friday, March 17th at 7:05pm MT at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.
