Game Preview: Swope Park Rangers at San Antonio FC
April 8, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers will look to improve on their 2-0-0 start to the season as they head to Texas to take on San Antonio FC at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 9. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game will be live streamed on SportingKC.com.
After claiming a 2-1 victory over Timbers 2 in their season opener on March 26, the Rangers followed that up with another 2-1 triumph over Tulsa Roughnecks FC last weekend. An 11th-minute strike from Dane Kelly and a late volley from Nansel Selbol were enough for SPR to take all three points from ONEOK Field, despite Taylor Morgan pulling a goal back with just a few seconds remaining.
San Antonio enjoyed victory in their first-ever game last Sunday, earning a 3-0 win away at Seattle Sounders FC 2. Forward Jason Johnson scored twice early in the first half to put SAFC in a commanding position, before substitute Fejiro Okiomah sealed the win late in the game.
Both the Rangers and San Antonio FC are in the midst of their expansion seasons in 2016, with Saturday's matchup marking the latter's first home game at Toyota Field. The city's NASL predecessor, the San Antonio Scorpions, went 4-6-5 at the venue in their final season in 2015, while SPR will have reason for optimism as road teams are 14-9-4 so far in the 2016 USL season.
Saturday's matchup is the first of three games between the two teams this season and the only one at Toyota Field, with the Swope Park Rangers hosting San Antonio FC at Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village on July 30 and Aug. 31.
No Other Pub will host watch parties for both the Sporting KC and Swope Park Rangers games on Saturday night, with fans treated to drink specials while a Swope Park Rangers player will be in attendance to sign autographs and meet fans starting at 7 p.m. CT.
