Game Notes: Red Deer Rolls into Town

The Records: The Broncos are 13-26-4-1. They are 8-14-1-0 at home and 5-12-3-1 on the road. The Broncos sit 6th in the East Division and 11th in the East Conference.

The Broncos are 9 points behind Edmonton and trail Medicine Hat and Saskatoon in the Eastern Wildcard standings for the 2nd playoff spot.

The Broncos are coming off a 7-4 win on home ice last night against Calgary.

Red Deer is 2nd in the WHL Central division with a 29-14-1-1 record. They are coming off a 4-0 road loss in Brandon last night.

RECENT TRADES:

Debrusk Dealt: The Broncos traded Jake Debrusk to Red Deer for 18 year old forward Lane Pederson, a 2017 1st round bantam pick and a 2016 3rd round pick.

Schumacher Sent to Seattle: The Swift Current Broncos sent the rights to Andreas Schumacher to Seattle to free up a roster spot for an import.

New Face, Olhaver: After freeing up an import roster spot the Broncos added 18 year old Swedish forward Gustav Olhaver. The 6'7, 220 pound left wing was released by Seattle after they acquired the right to Andreas Schumacher. Olhaver is expected to make his Bronco debut tonight.

Leth leaving: Cavin Leth was traded to Seattle. The 19 year old forward was exchanged for 17 year old defenseman Sahvan Khaira. Khaira is 6'3.5 and 220 pounds.Khaira has 4 assists and 31 penalty minutes in 34 games this season.

Bye to Bow: Yesterday the Broncos dealt 20 year old goalie Landon Bow to Seattle in exchange for 20 year old forward Jamal Watson, 18 year old goalie Taz Burman and a conditional 2nd round WHL bantam draft pick.

Adamson Added: The Broncos made one deal on deadline day adding 19 year old right winger Austin Adamson from Red Deer for an 8th round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2017.

VS Red Deer: This is the second time these teams have met this season. Red Deer won the previous game 5-1 in Red Deer on October 5th.

Homecoming: Jake Debrusk makes his return to the Credit Union i-Plex tonight. Debrusk was dealt to Red Deer December 27th for Lane Pederson, a first and a third round bantam draft pick. Debrusk led the Broncos in goals last season with 42 and was a first round selection of the Boston Bruins in last summer's NHL entry draft.

SICK BAY: Glenn Gawdin is out with a lower body injury 3-4 weeks. Jordan Harris, upper body indefinite. Cole Johnson, upper body indefinite. Calvin Spencer, lower body 2-4 weeks.

Special Teams: The Bronco power play is scoring 18.8% of the time which is 16th best in the WHL. The penalty kill is 14th best in the league at 77.9%.

Calgary scores on 21.5% of their power plays which is 7th best in the WHL. Red Deer has the 4th best power play percentage in the league at 23.2% while the PK is 75.4% which is 20th best in the 22 team league.

The Bronco power play is 9/17 in the last 6 games which is 52.9%

Heward appeared at World U17's: Broncos assistant coach Jamie Heward has rejoined the team after a stint as assistant coach of Team Canada Red at The 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Heward and Team Canada Red lost to Sweden in the Bronze Medal game Saturday.

Bronco Prospect wins gold at Mac's: 1999 born forward and Bronco prospect Tyler Oakenfold was part of the gold winning team at the Mac's Midget Tournament in Calgary. Oakenfold plays for the Calgary Midget AAA Flames.

Broncos Prospects Shine in U16 Challenge Cup: 3 members of the Broncos Bantam Draft class of 2015 took part in the U16 Challenge Cup in Calgary. Josh Prokop and Jacob Bernard-Docker were a part of Gold Medal winning Team Alberta. 2000 born prospect Riley Stotts led silver medal winners Team Manitoba in scoring. Broncos Assistant General Manager Jamie Porter and Goaltending Coach Derek Purfield also lent their talents to Team Alberta.

Central Scouting with an Eye on Max: Max Lajoie has again received an A level rating by NHL Central Scouting on the players to watch list. Lajoie is a late birthday 1997 born player who is draft eligible in 2016. Lajoie was one of six WHL prospects to get an A level rating last week. An A rating indicates a 1st round candidate in the NHL entry draft. Swift Current has had first round selections in the last two NHL entry drafts (Julius Honka in 2015, Jake Debrusk in 2015)

Drafted Broncos: Glenn Gawdin was selected in the 4th round by the St. Louis Blues in 2015. Gustav Olhaver as a 7th round selection of the Colorado Avalanche.

Who's the Best? The WHL recently named its Top 125 players of all time. Fans can vote for their favorites. After fan voting, the greatest all time players in the WHL will be named this season. Former Broncos on the list are: Cody Eakin, Dan Lambert, Adam Lowry, Joe Sakic, Brian Sakic, Bryan Trottier and Tiger Williams.

The Roster: The Broncos have 26 players on their roster.

Imports are Gustav Olhaver from Sweden and Artyom Minulin from Russia.

20 year olds are Jon Martin, Scott Feser and Jamal Watson.

There are 6 98's; Kaden Elder, Tyler Steenbergen, Cole Johnson and Colby Sissons, Sahvan Khaira and Artyom Minulin.

14 1997's; Gustav Olhaver, Mark Tarashuck, Glenn Gawdin, Lane Pederson Tristen Elder, Arthur Miller, Tyler Adams, Conner Chaulk, Brandan Arnold, Kade Jensen, Max Lajoie, Jaydan Gordon, Taz Burman and Travis Child.
