Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

Corpus Christi (23-38) @ San Antonio (42-19)

Anthony Contreras delivered a game-winning, RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to snap a 4-all tie and send the Missions on to a 6-4 win over the Hooks last night. That result, coupled with Midland's win over Frisco later in the evening, secured the first-half title for San Antonio in the Texas League South. Contreras finished the night 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

The Missions took advantage of five walks issued by Hooks pitching. Of the five San Antonio players who walked, four scored. Jimmy Paredes and Jose Altuve each went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Hooks, who are 3-2 on this road trip but 1-8 on the year against the Missions. The Hooks have dropped all five here at Wolff Municipal this season.

Tonight's Matchup:

RHP Jonnathan Aristil (3-4, 5.72) vs. RHP Aaron Breit (2-2, 6.75)

Aristil, obtained by the Astros in December along with LHP Wes Musick in the deal that sent RHP Matt Lindstrom to Colorado, makes his 13th appearance and 12th start this year. Last Wednesday to open this trip at Midland, Aristil worked four innings of no-hit, shutout relief to collect a 3-2 win. He walked two and struck out five, working the final four innings of a game started by Astros LHP Wandy Rodriguez. The performance was one of Aristil's sharper outings of the season. The Dominican native is tied for the league lead in home runs allowed (13), ranks second in walks (32) and is third in strikeouts (63). Originally signed by the Rockies as a non-drafted free agent in July of 2003, the former infielder was converted to pitching while with the DSL Rockies early in 2006. At the plate this year Aristil is 1-for-9 with 1 walk, 4 Ks and 2 runs. Lifetime as a hitter he is 35-for-254 (.138) with 1 HR and 17 RBIs.

· Has performed much better at home (2-1, 4.08, 7 starts) than on the road (1-3, 8.72, 5 games)

· In 2 starts against the Missions is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA

· His 13 HRs allowed have accounted for 22 of the 41 runs he's given up this year

Breit, a 12th-round "draft and follow" pick of the Padres in 2005, makes his 15th appearance and eighth start for the Missions. Breit is making his first appearance since June 2, when he allowed two runs on three hits in one inning of relief in a home game against Arkansas. He was activated from the disabled list (sprained right ankle) in time for tonight's start. In his last three appearances, including one start, Breit is 0-0 with an 8.22 ERA.

· TL opponents are hitting .358 off Breit

· In 2 starts against the Hooks is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA

· Posted a 2.85 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 75.2 innings his sophomore year at Garden City CC (2006) to earn JUCO All-American honors

Four Hooks voted to All-Star team

The Texas League released the rosters for the 75th Texas League All-Star Game, to be held here in San Antonio on Wednesday, June 29. Outfielder J.D. Martinez and shortstop Wladimir Sutil were voted onto the South Division squad as starters, while left-handed pitchers Xavier Cedeno and Dallas Keuchel were two of the 10 pitchers voted onto the team.

Martinez, 23, is Corpus Christi's leader in average (.309), RBIs (36), sacrifice flies (5), on-base percentage (.384), slugging percentage (.451) and OPS (.835). He has managed this despite missing two weeks in May with a leg injury. Picked by Baseball America as the sixth-best prospect in the Astros system entering this season, Martinez opened the year with an 11-game hitting streak and established a franchise-record nine-game RBI streak from April 11 through April 21.

Sutil, 26, joins Martinez on the starting unit as the South's shortstop. In 48 games with the Hooks, Sutil batted .295 with eight doubles, two home runs, 13 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. He opened the season with a 16-game hitting streak (28x67, .418), the longest streak in the league this year. Corpus Christi's offensive and defensive player of the month in April, Sutil was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City on June 7 and, barring a reassignment to Corpus Christi, will be replaced on the All-Star squad.

Cedeno, 24, leads the circuit in innings pitched (76.1) and is tied for the most starts (13). He ranks second in strikeouts (66) and slots eighth in ERA (3.77). A former Rockies farmhand, Cedeno has worked a minimum of six innings on seven occasions and has six quality starts. He was chosen as Corpus Christi's pitcher of the month in May, when he went 2-1 with a 2.94 ERA, with 30 strikeouts in 33.2 innings over five starts.

Keuchel, 23, stands third in the league in WHIP (1.14) and fourth in ERA (3.16). He tossed the first complete-game shutout by a Hooks pitcher in two years when he blanked the Travelers 4-0 at Arkansas on May 29. Keuchel was selected as the Texas League's Pitcher of the Week for the period April 7-17. He has seven quality starts and has held the opposition to three or fewer runs in nine of his 11 outings.

Sutil has been voted to the South Division All-Star squad three consecutive years.

Keuchel TL Pitcher of the Week

LHP Dallas Keuchel has, for a second time this year, earned Texas League Pitcher-of-the-Week honors. Keuchel earned the accolade by tossing seven innings of shutout ball last Friday at Midland. He allowed just one hit and did not walk a batter while striking out a season-high eight men.

Keuchel also earned POTW honors for the first (extended) week of the season (April 7-17) when he collected a win and a no-decision in starts against Northwest Arkansas and Tulsa, giving up just two earned runs over 14.0 innings (1.29 ERA) in the process.

Keuchel becomes just the fourth pitcher in franchise history to earn multiple POTW honors in the same season. The others were Polin Trinidad (2009), Chance Douglass (2007) and Jason Hirsh (2005).

Pitching Rotation at San Antonio

Tuesday: RHP Ross Seaton (2-4, 5.04) vs. RHP Jorge Reyes (3-1, 3.79)

Wednesday: LHP Dallas Keuchel (4-5, 3.16) vs. RHP Casey Kelly (4-2, 3.98)
