Game Day Storylines- vs Rapid City

March 18, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL) - Idaho Steelheads News Release

Steel Reel

The Steelheads and Rapid City Rush meet for the final time this season on Saturday night for the rubber-match of their three game series at CenturyLink Arena. The Rush were winners on Friday night, snapping Idaho's six-game winning streak against the Rapid City. With just four home games left on their regular season schedule, the Steelheads seek their 20th win of the year at CenturyLink Arena on the final night of their "Pink in the Rink" Weekend, sponsored by St. Luke's.

Ryan Misiak's power play goal in the third period was the first lead for the Rush on Friday night, and they would maintain that lead for a 4-3 win. Anthony Luciani notched a two-goal night for the Steelheads and Rob Linsmayer scored his fifth goal in the past nine games, but Logan Nelson had two goals of his own and Hunter Fejes scored in the second period. Adam Morrison stopped 34 Steelheads shots to snap Branden Komm's personal four-game winning streak between the pipes.

Looch the Leader...

Anthony Luciani's two-goal game on Friday night was his third multi-goal game of the season, giving Luciani a team-leading 27 goals and 57 points. Luciani now has as many points this season as Rob Linsmayer had last season in 70 games when he led the Steelheads in scoring. Steelheads captain Jefferson Dahl is well ahead of last year's scoring pace as well, with an assist on Friday keeping him one point back of Luciani's total.

Flyin' Brian...

Brian Nugent continues to produce offensively on a line with Kellan Lain and Anthony Luciani. Nugent set up Luciani's first goal of the game on Friday, with Kellan Lain grabbing an assist on the play as well. Nugent has seven goals and three assists in his last ten games, and almost inflated those numbers with two breakaway chances against Adam Morrison. Nugent was stopped on a first period glove save by Morrison but earned a penalty shot in the process. Morrison won the second battle as well with a right pad save.

Rapid Responses...

The Steelheads led three times on Friday, but each time the Rush answered back quickly. Logan Nelson scored twice for Rapid City, his fourth and fifth goals in nine games and fourth in the last three contests against Idaho. Nelson's first goal came 6:05 after Rob Linsmayer's opening tally, and then Nelson scored 2:02 after Anthony Luciani's first goal. Luciani's second score was answered 59 seconds later by Hunter Fejes' goal. Nelson's Wednesday goal also came just 50 seconds after a Linsmayer goal.
