Game Day Preview: Blades Set to Battle Broncos on the Road

March 14, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

Tonight - The Saskatoon Blades play for pride as they head into Swift Current looking to even the season series with one of the top contenders in the league. The Blades were eliminated from the playoffs after a 5-3 loss to Brandon last night. The Blades are 3-3-0-1 against the Broncos this season, having won the last 2 meetings back on Dec. 30th & Jan. 1st. Braylon Shmyr leads the offense with 8 points in 7 games vs Swift, while Aleksi Heponiemi leads the other side with 14 points against the Blades in just 5 contests.

The opponent - The Broncos are officially the 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference, at least on paper. Swift Current can no longer catch the Moose Jaw Warriors for 1st place, but they also have enough of a lead over Regina that they won't slip out of 2nd. Head Coach Manny Vivieros commented in an interview earlier today that Captain Glenn Gawdin and star forward Tyler Steenbergen would be game time decisions as they are both battling the flu bug.

For Saskatoon - A tough loss last night that officially knocked the Blades out of playoff contention, but Saskatoon still has plenty to play for. The veteran 20-year-olds will want to end their careers on a high note while the youth of the team will want to make the best of their final few games before heading home for the off-season. The lineup is mostly healthy but with several extra players combined with playing last night in Brandon, there could be some changes to the lineup tonight.
