LA Galaxy News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, March 02, 2007) - The Los Angeles Galaxy announced today that its Get a Kick Out of Reading literacy program will launch a new "Read Along with the Galaxy" video feature as part of its In The Community section at LAGalaxy.com. The Galaxy will be hosting a Read Across America Day Celebration as part of the club's Get a Kick Out of Reading literacy program, which is highlighted by staff and player appearances at different schools and libraries throughout the year.

In conjunction with Read Across America Day Celebration, the first installment of "Read Along with the Galaxy" will feature Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas and midfielder Cobi Jones reading the children's classic The Cat In The Hat by Dr. Seuss. Now kids can logon to LAGalaxy.com and read along with their favorite Galaxy stars.

Today, Galaxy players Steve Cronin, Josh Gardner, Troy Roberts and Kyle Veris, along with 2007 Miss L.A. Galaxy Candice Hansard and court member Kelly Moseley, will be on hand to read Dr. Seuss and soccer-themed books to students at Leapwood Avenue Elementary in Carson. Additionally, the Galaxy will be conducting a Reading is Fundamental book distribution where each student gets to select a book to take home with them, free of charge.

It is the 10th anniversary of Read Across America, the National Education Association's remedy for reading blues. Initially designed as a one-day party with the purpose of getting kids excited about reading, Read Across America, sponsored by NEA, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P., Major League Soccer, and more than 50 national sponsors, has grown into the nation's largest reading celebration with more than 45 million people from coast-to-coast participating each year.

NEA's Read Across America culminates each year on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.

The literacy campaign stresses the importance of motivating children to read and helping them master basic skills with an important message: Kids who read, and are read to, do better in school and in life. Read Across America calls on every community to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday through reading motivation and awareness. The literacy program also provides NEA members, parents, caregivers, and students the resources and activities they need to keep reading on their calendars 365 days a year.

Get a Kick Out of Reading is the Los Angeles Galaxy's literacy initiative designed to deliver positive messages about the fun and value of reading to children and families. The Galaxy, along with the National Education Association, seeks to integrate the sport of soccer and our staff and players into activities that help to promote a lifelong love of reading. The Galaxy's Get A Kick Out of Reading program consists of a variety of events, including library and school visits, player appearances and reading challenges.
