Fuel Open 2016-17 with Victory over Cincinnati

October 14, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - On opening night featuring fireworks after the game, the Fuel furnished their own special form of fireworks in the first period of the season as they throttled the visiting Cincinnati Cyclones before a boisterous crowd of 4,821 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum by the score of 3-1.

Indy ignited its revamped and retooled offense with a three-goal opening period uprising spurred by a pair of strikes stoked by dynamic left wing Alex Wideman after another young compact forward, rookie Anthony Beauregard had staked the home team to an early 1-0 advantage at the 1:32 mark.

Wideman's two goals severed a 1-1 deadlock and restored the Fuel lead, a lead they did not relinquish.

Goaltender Jake Hildebrand took it the rest of the way for the visitors, earning the game's #1 Star with an electrifying 33-saves' masterpiece. The Michigan State All-American blanked the visitors after the 4:57 mark of that initial stanza.

The Cyclones outshot Indy, 34-21 with Mark Visentin absorbing the loss in his ECHL debut.

It was the second consecutive year in which the Fuel opened the season with a home ice triumph.

The same two teams will cap the two-game home-and-home series Saturday night in the "Queen City" with the broadcast time beginning at 7:15 pm for the Morellis Cleaners Pre-Game Show on CBS Sports 1430.

Next Home Game: Friday, October 28 vs. Tulsa Oilers - 7:35 p.m. The Fuel and CHN are celebrating healthy lifestyles in conjunction with the first annual Fuel 5K Run/Walk on October 22. Race participants can attend the game for free and will be recognized. For more info on the Fuel 5K and to register, visit here .
