Potomac Nationals News Release

(WINSTON-SALEM, NC) Behind a gutsy start from Marcos Frias and another big night from Tyler Moore, the Potomac Nationals made sure there would be no last-inning heroics in a 7-2 win Saturday night in Winston-Salem.

Losers two straight nights on the Dash's last at bat, Potomac found itself in another tight ballgame at BB&T Ballpark. But some timely insurance runs removed the late drama and paced the Nats to their third win in nine tries in Winston this season.

Frias, who learned earlier Saturday that his grandfather had passed away, chose to take the ball - and he delivered a heroic performance. The righthander hurled six innings and held the potent Winston-Salem offense to two runs on five hits.

Ozzie Lewis got the Dash on the board in the second inning with a solo home run to left. But Potomac used a little good fortune and the hottest hitter on the planet to regain the lead in the third.

With two outs and Wilberto Ortiz at third base, Steve Lombardozzi hit a one-hopper out to shortstop. It caromed off field umpire Tyler Wilson, and Lombardozzi was safe on umpire's interference. That brought Tyler Moore to the plate; and Moore did what he has done for nearly two weeks: he hit a mammoth home run to make it 3-1. It was Moore's seventh home run in the past 11 games; he has driven in a preposterous 28 runs over that stretch.

Winston-Salem got a run back in the fifth when Jon Gilmore roped a two-out single that scored Mike Richard.

Potomac got a huge insurance run in the seventh, and again the umpires were involved. With two on and two outs for Steve Lombardozzi, Dash starter Stephen Sauer was called for a balk that scored Ortiz from third.

The Nats put the game out of reach in the eighth. After a one-out walk to Robbie Jacobsen, Sean Rooney singled ahead of consecutive doubles by Lozada and Ortiz made it 7-2. Ortiz went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Adrian Alaniz threw three scoreless innings of relief and allowed just one hit en route to his first save of the season.

The P-Nats will look for a split of the four-game series Sunday at 2 P.M. with A.J. Morris on the hill against Terry Doyle. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 1:40.
