Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN -- The Saltdogs are proud to announce that the Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of RHP Shairon Martis.

Martis is coming off a brilliant run during the Netherlands' semifinals surge in the World Baseball Classic, where he went 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in four games.

The newly-minted 30-year old (March 30) from Willemstad, Curacao was 9-8 with a 3.34 ERA for the Saltdogs in 2016, anchoring a pitching staff that set a franchise record with 10 shutouts. He posted a 6-3 record with a 3.74 ERA for the 'Dogs in 2015.

"We're very excited for Shairon, and know he has what it takes to make it back to Major League Baseball," Saltdogs President/GM Charlie Meyer said. "A lot of players on our roster, and in this great league, have the talent to contribute to big league clubs. The quality of baseball in the American Association is extremely high."

Martis is expected to report to Baltimore's Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk, Va. (International League).

Debuting in the San Francisco organization as an 18-year old in 2005, Martis first reached the big leagues in 2008 with the Washington Nationals. He is 6-7 with a 5.35 ERA in 116 MLB innings over three seasons with the Nats and Twins (2008-09, 2013).

Martis made 15 MLB starts for Washington in 2009, totaling 85 2/3 innings.

Lincoln has now sold 26 players to MLB organizations since 2011.

The Saltdogs open the 2017 campaign on May 19. For season ticket information please visit saltdogs.com.
