Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Syracuse, N.Y. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) posted a four-run rally in the ninth but fell to the host Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals) on Thursday night, 11-5. The RailRiders (16-15) committed five errors, one off the single-game franchise record first set at Syracuse on May 17, 1997. The Chiefs (11-18) won just their third game among their last 14.
Syracuse plated three unearned runs in a first inning that saw SWB charged with three errors. Dustin Fowler got the RailRiders on the board when his MiLB-best sixth triple pushed Tyler Wade home in the third inning.
The Chiefs immediately responded, scoring four in the home half of the frame to chase starter Bryan Mitchell. Crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth had Syracuse in front, 11-1, a margin that held until the ninth. Against reliever Rafael Martin, two-run hits by Kyle Higashioka and Fowler rounded out the scoring.
Chiefs starter Kyle McGowin (1-2) earned the win. Mitchell (0-1) took the loss.
The four-game series continues at 6:35 p.m. on Friday evening. SWB's Luis Cessa (2-2, 1.84) is scheduled to face fellow right-hander Joe Ross (0-2, 6.75). The RailRiders return home on Monday, May 15 to host the PawSox at 6:35 p.m. The Dollar Dog Monday sports $1 lawn tickets, $1 hot dogs and fans can bring their pup to the ballpark for just $1.
