Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - The United States Hockey League announced the roster for the 2013 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game to be held on Jan. 23 at the L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, Mich. on Wednesday.
Four Tri-City Storm players are scheduled to complete, including forwards Jason Cotton, Garrett Gamez, and Trevor Moore, along with defenseman Ryan Ivey.
Moore, who has played in all of the team's 31 games, is leading the Storm in scoring this season with 13 goals and 20 assists. The Thousand Oaks, Calif. native is in his second season with Tri-City, and ranks eleventh in the league in overall scoring. He also leads the team with four game-winning goals.
Gamez has also made an impact thus far in his first season, scoring five goals and four assists to go along with a +3 rating in 25 games. Both Moore and Gamez are committed to play collegiately at the Denver University.
Ivey had been a key defensive presence on the back end while bringing a physical element to the blueliners. He has registered two assists in his first 15 games this season, and can always be counted on to get down to block a shot to help out his team.
Cotton, a native of Parker, Tex. has appeared in 25 games, picking up an assist on Oct. 19 against Omaha. He is committed to Northeastern University.
The selection process was completed in cooperation with USHL General Managers, NHL scouts and team personnel, and NHL Central Scouting.
This is the second season for the event which will showcase many of the top players in the USHL who are eligible for the 2013 NHL Draft. The 2013 NHL Draft is scheduled to take place in June at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey - home of the NHL's New Jersey Devils. A total of 28 players who spent the 2011-12 season in the USHL were selected in the 2012 NHL Draft, including a record six players in the first round.
All 16 USHL teams have at least one player selected to participate in the event. The 40 players chosen will be divided into two teams for the game, which will be announced at a later date.
