Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts scored four in the second and never looked back as they knocked off the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-2 Tuesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium to even their series at a game apiece.
The Wingnuts (41-23) took their first lead in the series with a four-run second to break the ice. With one out, five straight reached for Wichita, starting with a Matt Chavez walk. After a Martin Medina single, Brennen Salgado gave the home team the lead with a single of his own. Brent Dean followed with a two-run double, and Christian Stringer then plated the final run of the frame with a fielder's choice.
Lincoln (37-26) pulled single tallies back in the third and fourth. Austin Darby picked up an RBI with a fielder's choice to score Ryan Wiggins in the third, and in the fourth Wiggins drove in the run, plating Tyler Urps with a single.
Those were the only two runs of the night for the Saltdogs, as Alex Boshers (7-3) kept them off the board over his next two innings, exiting after six. The righty fired his fifth consecutive quality start, allowing two runs over his six frames.
Behind Boshers, Chase Johnson, Chad Nading, and Frankie Reed combined to allow two base runners over the final three frames, with Reed closing it out to earn his 12th save.
After the four-run second, Lincoln starter Matt Larkins (6-3) settled in, lasting seven innings without allowing another run.
Wichita's final run of the night came in the eighth on a lead-off solo homer by T.J. Mittelstaedt, who tied Brent Clevlen for the team lead in RBIs by collecting his 50th of the campaign.
The Wingnuts and Saltdogs wrap-up their three-game series Wednesday night with a rubber match at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Veteran righty Jon Link (7-4, 3.67) will be on the hill for Wichita, while Lincoln will counter with southpaw Jeff McKenzie (3-3, 3.83). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
