Great Lakes Loons News Release

LANSING, MI - Lansing starter Daniel Norris entered Monday's game with the Great Lakes Loons with a 10.07 ERA. But the left-handed starting prospect for the Blue Jays worked four solid shutout innings as the first of four Lugnuts pitchers to hurl in a 5-0 two hit shutout.

Norris allowed just one hit over four innings after allowing a .343 opponent's average entering the game. He walked three and struck out five, but didn't qualify for the win. Chuck Ghysels (2-1) worked two scoreless with one hit, one walk and one strikeout for the scorer's decision win. Ian Kadish was perfect in the seventh and eighth innings with four strikeouts. Airk Sikula struck out the side in a 1-2-3 ninth. The quartet struck out a combined 13.

The Lugnuts capitalized on a throwing error by Loons starter Ralston Cash to plate two second inning runs, driven in on a two-run single by Emilio Guerrero. In the fifth, Cash walked the first three batters of the inning. Dalton Pompey scored on a passed ball by catcher Eric Smith. Then with one out, Kellen Sweeney singled home two to give the Lugnuts a 5-0 advantage and drive Cash out of the game.

Cash (2-2) threw 4 1/3 innings and was charged with two earned runs. He walked five and struck out four.

The Loons (13-23) return to Dow Diamond Tuesday night to begin a brief three-game homestand against the first-place South Bend Silver Hawks (22-11). Game time Tuesday is 7:05 p.m. The Loons will start right-hander Jharel Cotton (1-1, 2.51 ERA), fresh off seven shutout innings in Fort Wayne in his last start. South Bend is scheduled to start lefty Daniel Watts (5-0, 3.08), tied for the league lead in wins. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com. Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL.

The Loons are a seventh-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
