Four-Goal Third Period Stings Wings in Manchester

Kalamazoo Wings News Release

MANCHESTER, NH- The Kalamazoo Wings carried a one-goal lead into the third period, but were on the receiving end of a four-goal third period by the Manchester Monarchs, and dropped their third straight contest in a 6-3 final on Sunday at SNHU Arena.

Jumping out to an early lead, Kalamazoo killed off a Lane Scheidl penalty and used the momentum to generate offense in the Manchester zone. With sustained pressure, the puck was tapped back to Michael Trebish, whose long slap shot was deflected in front by Tanner Sorenson and into the goal, pushing the Wings ahead, 1-0.

The Monarchs came to life later in the period and evened the game at one with less than five minutes remaining the first. Setting up their attack around the perimeter, Justin Agosta feathered a back-door pass to the stick of Rihards Bukarts, who had an open net to tap the puck into the goal for his third of the season.

Manchester took their first lead of the game at the 5:19 of the second period after Zac Lynch was set up in the high slot by a right-wing pass from Daniel Doremus. Lynch's wrist shot slid past the right leg pad of Kalamazoo's Nick Riopel and into the goal for a 2-1 Manchester lead.

Kalamazoo didn't trail for long, as the Wings' deficit lasted only 32 seconds until it was erased. Peter Schneider carved into the Monarchs' end and danced around an opposing defender with some crafty stick handling, and slid the puck through the slot for Kyle Blaney, who was on the back door to bury his first career goal and tie the game at two.

While working on their fourth power play, Kalamazoo took their second lead of the game. Dajon Mingo's centering feed ended up in front of the goal where a scrum for the puck allowed Schneider to sneak in and spin it past Manchester goalie, Jonah Imoo. It was Schneider's first goal since being traded to Kalamazoo from Florida.

Though Kalamazoo entered the third period with an edge, Manchester stepped on the gas and were able to draw even and pull ahead in a matter of just 31 seconds. Joey Diamond tied the game at three with a tight-angle finish, and Bukarts gave the Monarchs a lead with a one-time goal from the high slot.

Bukarts finished off a hat trick three minutes later on an odd man rush and lifted the Monarchs' lead to a pair. Bukarts held the puck the entire way down the ice, checked off the passing options, and tallied with a wrist shot that went under the arm of Riopel.

Diamond finished off the Manchester third-period attack with an impressive individual effort which saw him spin to the backhand in close quarters and slip the puck into the net for his second of the night capping off a 6-3 victory for the Monarchs.
