Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - After an early strike the Modesto Nuts were unable to hold a lead in a 9-4 loss to the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino on Monday night at John Thurman Field.
Ricky Eusebio started things for the Nuts (11-7) with a two-run homer in the first off 66ers' (7-11) starter Jose Rodriguez (W, 1-2).
In the next half inning, Anthony Misiewciz (L, 0-1) gave up the lead when Jose Rojas lined a RBI double and Brandon Sanger whacked a RBI single.
Joey Curletta gave the Nuts the lead back when he recorded a RBI single in the third. Curletta finished 3-for-3 with three singles on the night. That was all the Nuts would get off Rodriguez who worked six innings and allowed just three runs on six hits.
In the fifth, the 66ers took the lead for good and knocked Misiewciz out of the game after he worked 4 1/3 innings allowing nine hits leading to six runs with four strikeouts and two walks.
Luis Valbuena, with the 66ers on MLB rehab, smacked a two-run double to give the 66ers the lead for good. Matt Festa followed out of the 'pen and surrendered a two-run single to Michael Barash. Matt Thaiss added on with a two-run double in the sixth.
Matt Walker threw well out of the Nuts 'pen to finish the game working 2 1/3 innings without giving up a hit and walking one.
