Four Firebirds Score Goals in 6-4 Loss to Owen Sound Tuesday

Owen Sound, Ont. - Nicholas Caamano scored once and tallied an assist, Ryan Moore recorded two assists and Hî=A5kon Nilsen scored his third goal of the season as the Flint Firebirds fell to the Owen Sound Attack 6-4 before a sellout crowd of more than 3,100 fans at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre on Tuesday night.

Sean Durzi opened the scoring for the Attack mid-way through the opening frame after he cleaned-up Ethan Szypula's rebound in the crease for his second goal of the season.

The Attack doubled their lead when Cordell James notched his 32nd goal of the season at 13:43. Szypula dished a pass from behind the goal to an open James at the left-circle who lasered a wrister over the left-shoulder of Garrett Forrest.

Nicholas Caamano (Dallas Stars) cut the deficit to 2-1 with a five-on-three power-play goal after he corralled a pass from Ryan Moore in the slot. With patience, Caamano moved the puck to his backhand around a defender and fired it past a diving Michael McNiven (Montreal Canadiens) for his 35th goal of the season. Caamano has 16 goals in his last 20 games and five tallies in his past three contests. Moore has 13 points in his last nine games. Firebirds' goaltender Garrett Forrest picked up an assist on the play.

Owen Sound answered less than three minutes later when Maksim Sushko buried his 17th goal of the season on a breakaway. Sushko chipped the puck around a Firebirds' defender at the blue-line and fired a shot on-goal that was saved by the left-pad of Forrest, but Sushko gathered his own rebound and tapped the puck into an open net for a 3-1 lead with 1:31 remaining in the first frame.

The Attack led 3-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Hî=A5kon Nilsen got one back 1:26 into the second period after he let-go a wrist-shot from the right-point that was deflected by an Owen Sound defender and past McNiven glove-side for his third goal of the season. After assisting on the play, Kole Sherwood (Columbus Blue Jackets) has 15 points (4G, 11A) in his last nine games.

Jake Durham knotted-up the score 34 seconds later when Ty Dellandrea fed him a no-look pass from behind the goal. Durham one-timed the puck from the slot, beating McNiven glove-side for his 10th of the season.

The Attack regained their lead after Jonah Gadjovich scored his 42nd goal of the year at 5:25. Nick Suzuki faked a shot at the right face-off dot and backhanded a pass to Gadjovich at the left-circle who fired it glove-side past Forrest.

16 seconds later, Petrus Palmu rifled a wrist-shot from the left-circle that found the top-right corner for his 38th tally of the season. Szypula recorded his third point of the night on the goal.

Flint moved within one-goal when C.J. Clarke notched his ninth goal of the season. Clarke gathered a rebound at the left-circle and promptly fired a wrister that beat McNiven upstairs, glove-side at 14:09 of the middle period.

Nick Suzuki added another one for Owen Sound after he one-timed a pass from Kevin Hancock at the left-circle, beating Forrest far-side for his 43rd goal of the season with 2:25 remaining in the middle period. The Attack led 6-4 after two periods of play.

The third period yielded no goals as the Owen Sound Attack defeated the Flint Firebirds 6-3.

Owen Sound outshot the Firebirds 32-31. Flint was one-for-three on the power-play, now scoring at least one power-play goal in 11 of the last 12 games. Caamano received third star honors after recording two points. Forrest made 26 saves on 32 shots and picked-up an assist.

The Firebirds are back in action Friday to begin a home-and-home with the London Knights. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Budweiser Gardens in London. The game will be televised live on channel 13 / 510 (HD) for Rogers TV subscribers in London and province-wide throughout Ontario on Rogers ch. 461 and Cogeco ch 492. Next Home Game: The Firebirds return home for the final time of the 68-game regular season next Saturday, March 18th against the London Knights. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. for 'Fan Appreciation Night,' featuring prizes at the doors for fans, giveaways and other memorable items throughout the night. In addition, the Firebirds are teaming up with the Whaley Children's Center for a donation drive where fans can bring in three personal care items to receive a sponsored ticket to the game, limit four tickets per person, while supplies last. Items needed are tooth brushes, tooth paste, deodorant, feminine products and body wash, with the limited tickets being sponsored by Oasis Payroll Services.

Tickets are $12 for Bronze, $15 for Silver, $19 for Gold and $25 for VIP seating. All seats are reserved / assigned seating. Parking has been reduced to $5 dollars, which is new this season.
