Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Stanislav Galiev has been assigned by the Capitals from the Bears to the Royals; and forward Barry Almeida ['ahl MEE duh'] has been loaned by the Bears to the Royals.

This is the second trek to Reading for Galiev, a first year pro from Moscow, Russia. A third round pick of the Capitals in 2010, Galiev played in last Wednesday's 2-1 overtime victory for the Royals over the Elmira Jackals without registering any points or penalty minutes. Galiev, who was a member of the 2011 Memorial Cup Champion Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, has recorded an assist and six penalty minutes in nine games with the Bears this year. Last season, Galiev led the QMJHL in playoff points (16g-18a34pts), as he helped the Sea Dogs win the President's Cup Championship in the Q and make their second consecutive appearance in the Memorial Cup tournament.

This is the first trip to Reading for Almeida (5'8/183) (23), a first year pro from Springfield, Massachusetts. Almeida has scored two goals and assisted on one other (three points) and picked up four penalty minutes in thirteen games with the Bears this season. Last year, Almeida scored twenty-two goals and assisted on eighteen others (forty points) in forty-four games with the NCAA Division I Champion Boston College Eagles. After the conclusion of his senior season, Almeida joined Hershey and scored his first pro goal in his lone regular season game. He also played one post-season game with the Bears. In his final season at Boston College, Almeida, who was third on the team in scoring, was selected as the team's co-Most Valuable Player. During his time at Boston College, the Eagles won three Beanpot Tournament titles, three Hockey-East playoff championships, and a pair of National Championships. In 159 total college games, Almeida registered ninety-two points (45g-47a) and seventy-six penalty minutes.

The Royals return to action tonight (November 21 @ 7:05 pm) when the South Carolina Stingrays visit the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania for the first time this season. The first 1500 fans who are twenty-one years of age and older will receive a plastic pint glass courtesy of All-Star Distributing. There will also be a post-game spiral ham shoot. Tonight's Game Night Broadcast kicks off at 6:35 pm on ESPN Radio (1240 am and 98.5 fm).
