Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - For the first time since April 7-9, 2011, the Fort Wayne TinCaps swept a three-game series at Parkview Field, defeating the Great Lakes Loons, 6-1, on Monday night in front of 7,687 fans. The TinCaps have now won three consecutive games.
Cody Hebner (7-5) earned his first win since June 11th, pitching six innings and allowing one run. The righthander allowed four hits, while walking two and striking out four. In the six starts between his last victory, he had gone 0-3 with an 8.63 ERA, but the Great Lakes (16-20, 50-56) lineup proved no match for him Monday. Hebner faced just three batters in four of his six innings, and allowed just one runner past second base. The Loons scored their lone run in the fourth on an RBI single by catcher Pratt Maynard.
Fort Wayne (22-14, 53-53) got out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with the help of Yeison Asencio. The outfielder had gone five-for-five at the plate Sunday, a triple shy of the cycle. In his second at bat Monday, he flied a three-base hit into right field, emptying the bases and giving the TinCaps the lead. Midwest League Player of the Week Kyle Gaedele contributed an RBI double in the fourth, making it 4-0, completing the scoring against Loons starter Greg Wilborn (1-1).
The lefty, making his third start of the season with Great Lakes, pitched five innings, surrendering four earned runs while striking out seven and walking two.
Now hitting .338 over their last six games, the TinCaps scored single runs on an Austin Hedges double in the sixth and a Kyle Gaedele single in the eighth. With a 6-1 final, Fort Wayne has scored at least four runs in 18 of the 27 games they have played in August.
Tuesday brings a 1:05 first pitch in South Bend against the Silver Hawks. The scheduled starters are Frank Garces for Fort Wayne and Tyler Green for South Bend.
