Former Red Sox Pitcher Eric Gagne to Pitch in Worcester

Worcester, MA - June 16th, 2009 - When the 2009 Worcester Tornadoes return home from New Jersey this Friday they will encounter Quebec's newest addition, and Cy Young Award winner, Eric Gagne. Gagne, who joins the Capitales as a player/coach will appear as a starter in the three game weekend series between Quebec and Worcester beginning on Friday, June 19.

The most memorable moments of Gagne's career came as a Dodger while in Los Angeles. Gagne earned the Dodgers' franchise record for career saves (161) and won the National League Cy Young Award in 2003. While with the Dodgers, Gagne was voted a National League All Star on three occasions and joined the Boston Red Sox for the latter half of their 2007 World Championship season.

Gagne's first appearance at Hanover Insurance Park comes on one of the most exciting weekends of the Worcester Tornadoes 2009 Fifth Anniversary Season. Friday, June 19 the Tornadoes will play host to a jersey auction to benefit March of Dimes in addition to a fireworks display following the game, courtesy of Price Chopper and Atlas Fireworks. Saturday, June 20 will feature back-to-back baseball entertainment as the Worcester Police Department's Gang Unit hosts its first High School Longball Challenge, a homerun derby featuring Worcester's best high school players. Sunday, June 21 will be another great Tornadoes Tykes Club Sunday and Twister will welcome his good friend Snoopy to the ballpark as he unveils the MetLife Financial Snoopy Winnebago as part of the traveling "Peanuts At Bat" exhibit sponsored by the Schulz Museum.

The Worcester Tornadoes' Fifth Anniversary Season is currently underway and thousands of fans have already enjoyed a game at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
