August 7, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1) - South Bend Silver Hawks News Release


South Bend, IN - The Arizona Diamondbacks today acquired right-handed pitcher Livan Hernandez and cash considerations from the Washington Nationals in exchange for former South Bend Silver Hawks starting pitchers Garrett Mock and Matt Chico.

Mock spent part of the 2004 season in South Bend after winning two games with the Yakima Bears. With the Hawks, Mock compiled a 3-2 mark in eight starts, with an ERA of 3.00. Mock struck out 37 and walked 12 in his eight starts, pitching 54 innings and throwing one complete game.

Chico also spent part of the 2004 year with the Silver Hawks before being ushered to El Paso (AA). Chico made 14 starts in South Bend, grabbing eight wins in 13 decisions and was named to the 2004 Midwest League All-Star team. His 2.57 ERA was near the top of the Hawks starting rotation and he fanned 89 hitters in 87.2 innings.
