Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN - Mathieu Nadeau scored twice to lead the Val-d'Or Foreurs to a 4-2 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs, Saturday at Harbour Station.

David Noel and Alexandre Couture also found the net for Val-d'Or (7-7-0-1), which snapped a two-game losing skid.

Kevin Gursoy tallied a goal and an assist for Saint John (3-9-3-1) while Cole Reginato also scored. The Sea Dogs have lost nine straight games.

The Foreurs opened the scoring nearly 13 minutes into the game with a power play goal.

Nadeau swept a shot on goal from the low slot that was stopped by goaltender Alex D'Orio. A scramble ensued and Nadeau chopped the rebound chance home from the right side of the crease.

Noel made it a 2-0 game with another power play connection with just over a minute left in the frame, blasting a heavy slap shot from the middle of the point that beat D'Orio on his blocker side.

Seventeen seconds later, Couture found the second rebound of a shot from the slot and slipped it along the ice, past a sprawling D'Orio and inside the right post.

Reginato got Saint John on the board less than two minutes into the second with a strike on the man advantage.

Gursoy took a pass on the left boards and saw Reginato off the right side of the crease. The overage winger stopped the puck and snapped it under Etienne Montpetit in the Foreurs' net.

Val-d'Or restored its three-goal lead with three minutes left in the period, as Nadeau drove the net on a 2-on-1 and potted the rebound of a shot from Adam Cheezo.

The only goal of the third period came from Gursoy with 20.8 seconds remaining.

Defenceman Alexis Girard ripped a low shot from the right point that Montpetit kicked out with his right leg. Gursoy darted in from the left wing and chipped the loose puck over the fallen netminder to create a 4-2 final score.

Montpetit made 31 saves in the victory. D'Orio took the loss with 28 stops.

Nadeau's two goals made him first star while Noel's single marker earned him a second-star selection. Reginato's goal gave him third star in front of 3,582 fans in attendance.

The Sea Dogs' next game is Sunday, October 29th, at 3 p.m. against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at Harbour Station. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office and online .
