 Waterloo Black Hawks

Force Top Hawks 3-1

January 23, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

All the scoring Saturday was done in power play situations as the Fargo Force outdistanced the Waterloo Black Hawks, 3-1 at Scheels Arena.

Combined, the two teams scored on four of 16 special teams tries.

Fargo and Waterloo started by exchanging power play goals during the waning minutes of the first period. The Force got the first one with 2:06 to play on a redirection by Grant Meyer, capitalizing on Denis Smirnov's shot from the right point. The Hawks leveled the score with 41.4 seconds to go before intermission; after Liam Pecararo slung the puck to the top of the crease, it came to Nick Swaney, and Waterloo's leading scorer put it into an open side.

After a scoreless second, the Force broke back in front when Blake Lizotte made the most of a power play second chance 22 seconds into the third period. Collin Saccoman blocked the first try from the inside edge of the right wing circle, but Lizotte stuck with it and delivered the goal with his second whack. Jake McLaughlin added one more Fargo tally, shooting from above the left circle at 14:27.

The Hawks continue an extended string of games against Western Conference rivals next weekend on home ice against the Sioux Falls Stampede. During the matchups on Friday and Saturday, Waterloo will wear the 2016 edition of John Deere jerseys, which will be auctioned Saturday benefitting Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters. All Deere employees and their families can enjoy $8 tickets for both games by presenting their Deere IDs at the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office. For details, call (319) 291-7680.
