Force to calm the Storm in 2005 opener

CLEVELAND, OHIO - - The Cleveland Force will return to action this Friday, January 7 when the team plays the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Chicago Storm at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University. The Force was originally scheduled to face the Monterrey Tigres but will now take on the Storm after the Tigres and San Diego Sockers discontinued operations for the balance of the season.

The action can be heard live on WHK 1420 AM or 1440 AM in Warren/Youngstown or live worldwide on the Internet at www.thesportsking.com. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:35 and is rally towel night. The first 2,000 fans will receive a rally towel courtesy of H2Cool.

Cleveland enters the contest with a record of 4-6 overall, 1-1 in the season series and 2-3 at home this season. The Force fell to the St. Louis Steamers in their last game on December 17, 2004 by a final score off 9-3. Cleveland and Chicago each won a game on their home floor. The Force fell to the Storm by a final score of 6-5 on November 3 but avenged their loss with a 9-5 victory on November 6. Cleveland is currently in fifth place in the MISL standings 4.0 games behind the Milwaukee Wave in first and a 1.5 game behind the Kansas City Comets for fourth.

Chicago comes into the game on a four game losing streak and with a record of 6-9 overall and 3-6 on the road. The Storm fell to the Wave last Friday by a final score of 6-5 in overtime. Chicago is tied for sixth place in the MISL standings along with two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast 4.5 games behind Milwaukee and a half game behind the Force four fifth.

Cleveland is led by defender and team captain John Ball in the season series with four points on two goals and two assists in the two games. Forwards Antonio Sutton and Chris Handsor along with defender Rene Rivas are tied for second in the series with three points apiece.

The Storm comes into the third game of the series led by four players with three points apiece, forward Bryon Alvarez, (2-G, A), defender Costea Decu (G, 2-A), midfielder Chris Carrieri (G, 2-A) and midfielder Matthew Stewart (3G).
