Flyers Split marathon doubleheader with St. George

August 6, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

After a rough opening game and half inning in game two, the Orange County Flyers showed (11-9) off their powerful offense en route to a split of a doubleheader with St. George (11-9) Tuesday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.

Bob Cramer (6-2) struck out eight in his league leading fifth complete game of the season as the Flyers picked up a split with a 13-5 win despite the Flyers committing five errors.

Jermy Acey continued his assault on the GBL and Patrick Breen showed why he is a triple crown candidate. Acey finished the day four for six with five RBI and a Grand Slam while Breen continued to assault the record book, launching home run 22 of the year.

The Flyers used two big innings to jump out in front of the RoadRunners and starter Mario Tolj.

After falling behind by three runs, O.C. answered back with a four run first thanks to a Jeff Van Houten RBI double before Jermy Acey plated Van Houten with a double of his own.

The Flyers really dug into Tolj in the third, as Josh Arhart drove in two with an RBI double. Orange County did not stop there as Tolj walked the bases loaded before Jermy Acey blasted a grand slam to extend the lead to six.

Patrick Breen followed in the very next at bat, blasting his 22nd long ball of the year.

A scary moment happened in the sixth as Buddy Morales fouled a ball off that glanced off his forehead causing him to leave the game. Morales was able to leave the field on his own feet.

The Flyers added three more in the fifth in response to a RoadRunner run in the fourth allowing starter Bob Cramer to work late into the ball game and throw a complete game.

The teams continue seven straight contests against each other as they pick up with a single game Wednesday night at 7:05.
