Flyers Lose In 9th

August 18, 2007 - NBA G League (G League)
Fort Worth Flyers News Release

After battling back and forth throughout the game, the Flyers gave up a run in the 9th and go down in defeat, 5-4.

With the game tied going into the 9th, the Flyers gave up a 2-out RBI single that turned out to be the difference maker as they went down, 5-4, to the St. George Roadrunners on Saturday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.

The action started off quickly as the Flyers got on the board in the 1st inning. With 2 outs, LF rich Pohle walked, DH Peanut Williams followed with a single to short left field, and 1B Scott Goodman's RBI single up the middle scored Pohle and got the Flyers up 1-0. St. George grabbed the lead in the 3rd inning when LF Ryan Stephenson launched a 1-out pitch by Flyers starter Ben Fox (4-2) over the right field fence for a 2-run homer (his 9th on the season) and get the Roadrunners up 2-1.

After going 3 innings in a row in getting the lead-off batter on base, but failing to capitalize, the Flyers finally broke through in the 5th inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 hits to regain the lead, 4-3.

2B Dave Bacani led-off the inning with an infield single. Pohle brought him home with a RBI single to right to make it 3-2 Roadrunners. P. Williams then stepped up and launched a 1-0 pitch from Roadrunners starter Donovan Graves (3-5) over the left field wall for his 13th home run of the season and give the Flyers a 4-3 lead.

Fox, who pitched a solid game going 7.1 innings while giving up 4 earned runs with 8 strikeouts, removed himself from the game in the 8th. He left runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1-out for reliever Andrew Soto (3-3). Soto immediately gave up a RBI sacrifice fly to Roadrunners pinch-hitter Geoff Wagner that tied the game up at 4-4. After tying it in the 8th, the Roadrunners got the decisive run in the 9th when Stephenson again hurt the Flyers with a 2-out RBI single to left that proved to be the game winner and get the Roadrunners the victory, 5-4.

P. Williams went 3-4 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and home run to lead the Flyers offense.

The lose puts the Flyers at 15-15 in the 2nd half of the season and they play their last home game of the season tomorrow at 2:05 against the St. George Roadrunners at Goodwin Field.
