December 5, 2006 - NBA G League (G League)
Fort Worth Flyers News Release

FORT WORTH, Texas, December 5, 2006 - The Fort Worth Flyers won in dramatic fashion tonight and managed to pull a win over the Anaheim Arsenal after falling behind in the third quarter. The home team won 119-111.

In the first quarter, the Flyers nearly the shot the lights out, making 63 percent of their attempts. The Arsenal shot 45 percent in the same frame. Forward Kelenna Azubuike was already in double figures with 11 points. Fort Worth capped the opening quarter with a 16-6 run and ended the frame with a 34-25 advantage.

In the second quarter, the Flyers persistently flirted with a double-digit lead which dipped as low as 4 and as ascended as high as 13. The Fort Worth bench gave a great boost with 22 points, including 10 from guard David Logan. Guard Corey Santee also had a good period, nailing both his three-pointers and gathering two assists. At halftime, the Flyers led 60-54.

After the break, Anaheim whittled down the Fort Worth lead and edged the Flyers 80-79 with 3:00 remaining. The Flyers came back briefly after a lay-up by guard Bobby Jones, but the Arsenal ended the period up 86-81.

In the fourth quarter, the Flyers found their touch again, reclaiming the lead with 8:26 remaining. Azubuike nailed a lay-up to make the score 93-92. From there, Anaheim never had the lead another time. Williams had a phenomenal fourth quarter, scoring 21 points and making each of his 3 three-pointers.

"We just needed a lift," Williams said. "I wanted to do something just to get us going. Shots start falling and more shots start falling, and we got a little cushion there at the end."

Flyers head coach Sidney Moncrief said the defense was horrendous most of the game, but was happy the team came through at the end.

"When the game was on the line, they didn't crack, they didn't break, they executed fairly well and we had some players step up and make plays. That's what it takes to win close games in the fourth quarter."

The Flyers were led by Williams, who had 35 points and 7 assists. Azubuike added 25 points, and forward Ryan Hollins had 14 points. Center Luke Schenscher led the team with 11 total rebounds.

Anaheim's top performers were forward Jawad Williams, who had 24 points, and forward Corsley Edwards, who had 20. Guard Andre Owens led all players with 12 total rebounds.

With the win, the Flyers improve to 4-0 to remain the only undefeated team in the D-League, and the Arsenal drop to 3-3. Fort Worth will travel to Little Rock to face the Arkansas RimRockers on December 8 at 7 p.m. The Arsenal will visit Albuquerque to take on the Thunderbirds on December 7.

Moncrief said he is pleased with the win streak, but as a coach, knows there can be improvements.

"I wouldn't trade 4-0 playing okay for 2-2 playing perfect," he said. "I'll take the 4-0 any day of the week."
