Fort Worth Flyers News Release

The Fort Worth Flyers won in great fashion tonight, annihilating the Tulsa 66ers 110-95 this afternoon at the convention center. The victory broke the home team's two-game losing streak.

Head coach Sidney Moncrief said although they started slow, their intensity picked up as three-point shots started to fall their way.

"We were able to fight back, we made shots," said Moncrief. "Our defense was very active - it's how we practice it."

In the opening quarter, the 66ers jumped to an 8-0 advantage with 9:52 to go. Fort Worth responded quickly and pioneered a 10-1 run, and thanks to a jumper behind the three-point arc by guard Corey Santee, taking their first lead of the game with 6:11 to go. The Flyers surrendered the lead briefly, but regained the advantage holding the lead for the remainder of the game.

Moncrief said the big players did a good job of holding down home court, controlling rhythm and not allowing penetration.

"Once we started going, they really couldn't do much to stop us," said Anthony Terrell.

In the second quarter, the Flyers opened with 7-0 run extending their lead to 18, their biggest lead of the first-half. The 66ers attempted to battle back, but could only manage to cut the shortcoming to 13 points. Fort Worth entered the locker room with a comfortable 61-46 lead at half. Terrell had 12 of his 23 points in the second quarter.

The Flyers shot 68 percent in the first half, while holding Tulsa to 40 percent. Fort Worth also won the rebound war, outdoing Tulsa 20-12. In addition, the Flyers doubled Tulsa's points in the paint, 24-12.

The Flyers maintained a healthy advantage, in the third quarter, which dipped to as low as 15, but ascended as high as 32. Fort Worth concluded the quarter with a 16-6 run to cap the score at 93-65.

In the fourth quarter, the 66ers slashed the Flyers' lead to 108-95, but fortunately for the home team, less than a minute remained in the game. Fort Worth cruised to a 110-95 victory, and improved to 20-14. The Tulsa 66ers fell to 14-21.

"It was a good effort on our part - you can't take anything away from our guys," Moncrief said. "They played hard and they performed well."

Moncrief said the team was trying to improve ball movement, and that the team's defense won the game. The Flyers held the 66ers to less than 20 points in two quarters.

"It was good to get back out there and run again," said Terrell. "We needed to get back where we used to be - where we're used to being - on the winning side of the fence."

Santee had 23 points, three rebounds and five assists for the Flyers. Terrell added seven boards and two assists to his point total. Center Deji Akindele notched 16 points, seven rebounds and one steal.

For Tulsa, guard Denham Brown led the team with 23 points and six boards. Guard Alan Anderson had 18 points, four rebounds and six assists.

Tulsa will return home to host the L.A. D-Fenders on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Expo Square Pavilion.

Fort Worth will face the 66ers again on Tuesday, March 13. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
