April 22, 2017 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Florida Launch
After an offseason of big moves, the Florida Launch continue to build up the hype for what is set to be an exciting 2017 Major League Lacrosse season. This time, the hype comes from the official announcement of the team's captains, defenseman Tucker Durkin and midfielder Steven Brooks.
"It's a tremendous situation to have two great players and men leading this franchise," said Launch coach Tom Mariano, "they have great experiences as players and are outstanding role models for the game of lacrosse."
After a prolific career at Johns Hopkins, Durkin continued his successes, accumulating several accolades such as four All-MLL team selections and three All-Star Game appearances. Brooks, a nine-year MLL veteran, helped Syracuse to two championships and continued his winning streak in the MLL, where he won two rings with the Chesapeake Bayhawks. With a combined 13 years of pro experience, Durkin and Brooks hope to translate their personal successes into their leadership roles.
"Steven and I have both been in leadership roles in the past, and I think we make a really great tandem with our slightly different leadership styles and personalities," said Durkin.
With a new coaching staff, new captains, and three first round picks in the 2017 Collegiate Draft, the Launch hope that this will be the start of a new chapter in Launch history.
"We're on a mission to change the tide of the Florida Launch, and we're going to make it happen this year," said defenseman Tucker Durkin, "we all have a chip on our shoulder, and it's time for us to come together and go to work. It's as simple as that."
The Launch will play their season opener this Sunday, April 23 in DeLand, Florida at Spec Martin Stadium. For tickets, visit www.floridalaunchlacrosse.com/tickets or call 561-923-9067 today.
