Florida Flame Dance Team, Interactive Squads and Mascot Auditions This Sunday

FORT MYERS, Fla., Aug. 18, 2005 -The Florida Flame, presented by Century 21 Sunbelt Realty, have announced audition dates and times for the 2005-06 Flame Interactive Teams: the Flame Starters, JR. Jive dance team, Hot Flashes, and Flame mascot, Flash. The auditions for all squads and will be held this Sunday, August 21 at The Omni Club, located at 1755 Boy Scout Drive in Fort Myers.

On-site registration for the JR. Jive auditions is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Omni Club with auditions starting at 11:00 a.m.. JR. Jive auditions are open to kids, ages 8-13 as of September 1, 2005. Participants should wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing.

On-site registration for the Flame Starters and Mascot auditions begins at 1:30 p.m. with auditions starting at 2:00 p.m.. All Flame Starters audition participants must be 18 years of age as of September 1, 2005. Dancers should wear performance makeup, jazz sneakers, and a two-piece outfit.

Auditions for the Hot Flashes and non-dancing members of the Flame Starters will begin at 5:00 p.m. with on-site registration starting at 4:30 p.m..

The following is a list of the Flame interactive and dance teams for the upcoming season:

- Jr. Jive - Girls and boys high energy dance, gymnastic, hip-hop team, ages 8-13, who love to have fun courtside while performing and cheering at select Flame games. The Flame are seeking dynamic boys and girls to be part of this year's squad. Up close and personal with the Flame Basketball Team!

- Flame Starters - The Flame Starters dance squad will play a major role in enhancing the overall environment of Flame games during the 2005 - 2006 season. Team will be comprised of dancers, age 18 and over, who entertain the crowd with exciting dance routines and courtside cheering at all Flame home games. Squad will also make local appearances throughout the Southwest Florida community during the season. Additional non-dancing interactive marketing team will also be incorporated into the Flame Starters for the upcoming 2005-06 season.

- Flame FANatics - A crazy, fun group of true Flame Fans willing to do anything to pump up the crowd and cheer on the team at select Flame games.

- Hot Flashes--An on-court performance and community goodwill ambassador group of fabulous women, ages 49 and up (don't worry, we won't tell how "up"!), who enjoy life and new experiences.

- Flash - The hottest, most fun-loving mascot in the NBA Development League! Flash's hilarious and crowd-pleasing antics have become a trademark of all Flame home games and community appearances.

The auditions will be directed by Flame Director of Game Entertainment, Amiee Turner. Turner brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Flame organization with her extensive background in dance and theatre. A scholarship student with the Joffrey Ballet at 14, she soon began her professional career touring nationally with CATS and landing her first Broadway show while still a teenager. Turner has appeared in six Broadway productions, several National and International Tours, starred in various regional productions and directed, choreographed and taught across the country and in Europe. Some of Turner's other eclectic professional highlights include producing an independent feature film, sitting on the Board of Directors for a private school in Connecticut, managing a restaurant and working as a sales representative for a children's clothing line. After moving from New York City to Fort Myers almost two years ago , Turner recently starred in two productions at The Florida Rep in Fort Myers (Fall 2004) and directed and choreographed a production of The Will Rogers Follies at the Show Palace in Hudson, Florida (January 2005).

The Flame will also be hosting their final open Master Dance Clinic "Hip Hop Nation" and pre-audition workshop at the Omni Club this Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20. The workshops will be hosted by nationally acclaimed hip-hop choreographer and MTV Award recipient, Jasen Page. Two sessions will be held each day for age groups 8-13 and 14 and up. Both clinics are $25, with a $5 discount for participants who pre-register by August 16. An update will be posted on floridaflame.com
