Florida Drops Game Two to Royals, 5-4

April 15, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL) - Florida Everblades News Release

READING, PA - A big second period lifted the Reading Royals to a game two victory on home ice and a 2-0 edge in the best-of-seven second round playoff series against the Everblades. Daniel Steiner scored two goals 1:22 apart in the second period to paced Reading to a 5-4 victory. Goaltender Matt Dalton stopped 38 shots for Reading to pick up his league-leading fifth post-season win. The series move to Florida's Germain Arena for game three through six starting this Saturday night.

Unlike the first period in game one that saw six goals, just two goals were scored by Florida and Reading in game two. 48-seconds into the contest, Ben Gordon put Reading up 1-0 on a beautiful pass out of the corner by linemate Ryan Cruthers. Cruthers, the ECHL's post-season leading scorer, registered his 10th assist and 14th point. The Everblades evened the score at 1-1 on captain Ross Carlson's second tally of the playoffs. Milan Gajic, tied with Reading's Cruthers for the post-season scoring lead, recorded his 8th assist and 14th point while Scott Hotham registered the second assist on the power-play goal. Reading out shot the Everblades 17-14 in the first period. Florida converted their only power-play chance and killed off the only chance for Reading in the opening 20 minutes.

The second period featured a Royals explosion. Reading scored four goals in the frame to the Everblades two to take a 5-3 lead to the locker room after 40 minutes of play. Daniel Steiner scored the final two goals to give the Royals the first two-goal advantage of the contest. Reading started the scoring in the second period just 12-seconds in on a Gavin Morgan goal, his first of the post season. The Everblades struck on the power play 1:22 later to tie the score at 2-2 on a Milan Gajic goal. Reading answered with a Marc Cavosie marker at 8:57. Florida responded again on the power play 2:50 later to tie the score again at 3-3. Shea Guthrie scored the power play goal as Florida finished the game a perfect 3-3 on the extra man opportunity. Steiner scored the final two goals in the period to give Reading a 5-3 lead heading into the final period.

The Everblades added the only goal of the third period as Ryan Lang scored his second goal in as many nights. Lang fired home a rebound off the stick of Matthew Pistilli's shot to cut the Reading lead to one goal but Florida could get no closer.
