Florida Flame News Release

Fort Myers, Fla., January 11, 2005 - The Florida Flame have acquired point guard William "Smush" Parker from the National Basketball Development League player pool, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Flame Head Coach Dennis Johnson. The Flame also waived guard Kevin Braswell.

"William is an experienced point guard," said Head Coach Dennis Johnson. "He has been in the NBA for a couple years now and understands the ins and outs of basketball and his position." "He has direction, and can handle our team and our offense."

Parker, a member of the Detroit Pistons earlier this season, played in 11 games (one start), averaging 3.0 points, 1.0 assists and 0.8 rebounds in 10.0 minutes per game. In his only start of the season, he scored a season-high 14 points (5-13 FG, 1-4 3FG, 3-6 FT) with a season-high six assists and four rebounds vs. Charlotte (11/21).

Parker was also a member of the 2002-03 Cleveland Cavaliers, playing in 66 games and starting 16 times. With the Cavaliers, Smush averaged 6.2 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 steals in 16.7 minutes of action. He shot 40-percent from the floor and an impressive 83-percent from the free-throw line.

Coach Johnson expects Parker to make an instant impact for the Flame. "I expect Smush to contribute immediately. He brings veteran experience to a young team and can make big plays down the stretch."

Parker, who will wear jersey #17, is expected to play at Roanoke on Wednesday.
