Flint's Jackson summoned by Toronto

Boise, Idaho — The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Flint Fuze point guard Jermaine Jackson has been called up by the NBA’s Toronto Raptors. The call-up is the second of the 2001-02 CBA season.

Jackson, a 6-4 product of the University of Detroit (Â’99), began the season in PhiladelphiaÂ’s training camp before being released. In a 103-101 loss to the Fargo-Moorhead Beez, he dished out a CBA season high 16 assists to contribute to his league leading 8.6 assists per game. Jackson averaged 15.4 points on 81-157 (.516) shooting from the field and 93-112 (.830) from the foul line in 17 games with the Fuze.

“Our organization is very excited for Jermaine to have this opportunity. He is a hard-working player who has devoted a great deal of time and effort towards this goal. He is our floor general, and we’ll miss him, but we hope his stay in the NBA is a permanent one,” said Fuze Head Coach Jeff Grayer.

“He gives us a veteran presence in a back-up role having played in the NBA before. He was doing very well in the CBA getting a lot of assists with very few turnovers,” said Bob Zuffelato, Raptors Assistant General Manager. “He is a very versatile player and a good defender who will add experience in our backcourt.”

Jackson appeared in seven games for the Detroit Pistons in 1999-00. He began the 2000-01 season with the Quad City Thunder of the CBA before joining Scaligera Basket Verona of the Italian A1 league. Jackson will fill the roster spot vacated by Carlos Arroyo, who was released Monday, and take the floor for the first time on Friday when the Raptors host the Atlanta Hawks.
