Roanoke Dazzle News Release

Roanoke, Va., (Mar. 13) – The Huntsville Flight placed five players in double figures on their way to a 91-81 NBDL victory over the home standing Roanoke Dazzle.

The Flight took the lead at the 6:40 mark of the second quarter and never looked back, sending a season high 3,820 Dazzle fans home without a win. Huntsville head coach Ralph Lewis knew the Dazzle fans would be out in large numbers with a chance to snare first place from the idle Charleston Lowgators. "We knew that there was going to be a big crowd and a lot of energy, especially coming off a win. But we know in order to be in this playoff race we had to win."

The Flight (18-18) were lead by Phil Ricci’s 26 point, 11 rebound double-double. Ken Johnson and Isaac Fontaine each chipped in 12 points in the winning effort. Fontaine also pulled down 11 rebound to tie Ricci for team honors.

The Dazzle (20-17), who shot just 40% from the field, were paced by Josh Asselin’s 15 points. Geoff Owens had 16 rebounds to lead all players.

Roanoke head coach Kent Davison saw what appeared to be a tired team. "We had opportunities, but we didn’t have any legs. They just got the better of us, they came out and played with energy, and we just didn’t have it. That’s the disappointing thing, especially at home with a nice crowd."

The Dazzle loss coupled with an Asheville win over Columbus, dropped Roanoke to third place one game out of first and moved the Altitude back into second place just one-half game behind Charleston. The Flight continues to hold the fourth and final playoff spot.

Huntsville returns home for an important Friday home game with Asheville. Roanoke remains home for an equally important Tuesday evening contest with the Charleston Lowgators.
