Flight Players Finish Summer on NBA Rosters

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., July 29, 2003 – Seven players who have played for the Huntsville Flight over the first two National Basketball Development League seasons recently completed summer league play on NBA rosters. The seven players are part of a group of 63 that have been a part of the NBDL.

Headlining the group is Art Long, who played the final 10 games for the Flight after seeing action with three NBA teams last season. Long compiled an 11.6 points per game average over seven contests while connecting on .623 of his shots from the floor and .682 from the foul line for the Golden State Warriors.

First-season Flight player Tyrone Ellis tallied an 8.9 scoring average along with a .846 free throw percentage over 12 games for the Dallas Mavericks. His Maverick teammate for the summer, Brandon Williams, collected a 7.7 point per game mark in 11 contests as he made .446 of his field goals.

Eric Chenowith, who played parts of the first two seasons in a Flight uniform, saw action with both the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns over the last month. In eight games, Chenowith converted .488 of his shots for a 7.8 scoring average while tallying 4.4 rebounds per game.

The San Antonio Spurs got 5.8 points and 2.5 assists per game from A.J. Guyton, who appeared in 30 games for the Flight last season. Guyton saw action six times for the Spurs.

Two other part-time Flight players from last season, Jefferson Sobral and Greg Stempin also appeared for NBA summer teams. Sobral, who played five times for the Seattle Supersonics, notched 4.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per tilt. As for Stempin, he appeared eight times for the Denver Nuggets and scored 3.6 points per game while averaging 2.4 rebounds per tilt.

The Flight will begin their third season Nov. 21 when they play host to Columbus at the Von Braun Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
